Presenting ISSEY MIYAKE INC.’s 2012 Christmas season, developed under the theme of “Magic.” At ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE, the season started with a window display titled “Momentary Shape, Lyrics of Brightness.” Products perfect for this season and items produced under the theme of “Magic” are available from each brand. Please stop by!

“Momentary Shape, Lyrics of Brightness”
Pouring rain changes into snow, piling up on the ground.
Then the snow melts, turning into fog and clouds.
And then, it turns into rain again…
Within much the same way, resin that melts when heat is applied differs in its beauty and momentary shape every time it is reformed. “Momentary Shape, Lyrics of Brightness” is a work that expresses the beauty and warmth inherent to plastic, and was designed and produced by Honda Plus, a plastic forming company that makes products such as PET bottles, and supervised by artist Mika Aoki.
Using PET resin that is generally used for mass production in molds, Honda Plus invented the “ame” (rain) crafting technique as a new type of manufacturing.
This work was hand-made with PET materials, and features many positive words pouring down like rain, including “happy,” “active,” “merry” and “enjoy.” We have added special words for ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE to this work, and hope it brings you all abundant happiness.
Design and production: Honda Plus Co., Ltd. ame Dept.
Art supervision: Mika Aoki
Starts from November 1 (Thu), 2012!

September 1 (Thu.) – September 22 (Sat.)
UNIVERSE ⇄ UNIVERSE
Saki Chikaraishi, a “hyper knit creator” whose ambition is to “wrap the whole world up in knitting,” creates woolen art works with a “mission” to link the world together in a warm and gentle connection.
“ManGlobe,” a wool-knit globe-shaped robot with eyes in five continents, is the partner and symbol of the artist, who aims to link the world together in a warm and gentle connection, using woolen yarn.
With this work as the centerpiece, the exhibition, “UNIVERSE ⇄ UNIVERSE,” was created to crystallize Chikaraishi’s message: “If you flew out into space and took a look, wouldn’t the Earth be just like the ‘ManGlobe’? Beyond national and racial borders, it is a simple and plain fact that all people live on one planet, the Earth. The boundless yearning for space is also common to all mankind.”

Saki Chikaraishi
In 2004, her work received a Jury Selection in the Art Division at the 7th Japan Media Arts Festival, and she won the GOLD prize in the Interactive Division at the 9th Campus Genius Award. In 2005, she held her first personal exhibition. In 2009, she began her efforts to “wrap up the whole world in knitting”—knitting everything around her, places where she visited and people who she met—as she launched her creative activity on the Gold Coast. Since then, she has been pursuing her “mission” in various fields, including personal exhibitions, workshops, and live knitting.
On September 27 (Thu), ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA will reopen with its space expanded to the second floor. We will be closing September 23 (Sun) – 26 (Wed) for remodeling. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask you to keep these dates in mind when planning your visit.
